The expansion of the A. Isahakyan library - using the abandoned construction pit between the library and the Republic Square metro station can activate and rehabilitate this area. Studies have shown that the Republic Square station, while surrounded by two-level large public areas and green zones, does not have a fully functional, healthy organization, and the library building hosts a former cafeteria are for government building workers in the basement. It is noteworthy that these two zones are on the same level and are separated only by walls. The project suggests that the library is expanded using the pit, thus opening to the Metro Square on the underground level with a scenic fountain between them. The new public space will become an intermediate node and a catalyst for the activation and development of both sides. In addition to expanding the existing library space (a new reading room, new storage facilities, etc.), some space will be rendered for additional functions such as a spacious bookstore with an adjacent café.
